Day 4: Visitation

Mary hastens to visit Elizabeth, whose child leaps for joy and Mary proclaims the Magnificat

Daily Prayer to the Divine Child Jesus

Lord God, Almighty King: in your hands all things are placed. If you wish to save your people, no one can resist your will. You made heaven and earth and all that is contained in them; you are the owner of all things. Who, then, can resist your majesty? Lord, God of our fathers: have mercy on your people, for the enemies of the soul seek to destroy us and the difficulties that confront us are very great. You have said: "Ask and it shall be given to you. He who asks receives. Whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will grant it to you. But ask with faith." Hear, then, our prayers. Forgive our faults. Turn away from us the punishments we deserve and make our weeping turn to joy, so that, by living, we may praise your holy name and continue praising it eternally in heaven. Amen.

Scripture Reading
Luke 1, 39-56

39At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the child you will bear! 43But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

46And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
holy is his name.
50His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

56Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Reflection

This passage invites us to reflect on the power of encounter in our spiritual lives. Mary's prompt response to the angel's message leads her to serve Elizabeth in her time of need, reminding us that true faith propels us outward in love. Just as the sound of Mary's greeting brings joy and the Holy Spirit's outpouring, our own acts of kindness and visitation; whether to the lonely, the sick, or the marginalized, can become channels of God's grace. In a world often marked by isolation, the Visitation calls us to emulate Mary's haste: to "hurry" toward others, bearing Christ in our hearts and words.

Joys

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

Lovable Child of my life
consolation of Christians
the grace I need
I place in your divine hands

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

You who know my sorrows
for I entrust them all to you
give peace to the troubled
and relief to my heart

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

And though I do not deserve your love
I will not turn to you in vain
for you are the Son of God
and consolation of the Christian

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

Remember, O Holy Child
that it has never been heard
that anyone who implored you
did not receive your help

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

Therefore with faith and trust
humble and repentant
full of love and confidence
we ask for your protection

Oh Divine Child
my God and Lord
you will be the owner
of my heart

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
